Year 6 Swimming – Catch Up from Year 5 – Groups 4 and 5
Dear Parents / Guardians,
We are hoping to be able to recommence our swimming lessons after October half term. Typically, swimming lessons take place in year 5, however, in the first instance, we would like to ensure that the children who missed their swimming lessons due to the closure of the school have the opportunity to swim.
It is a National Curriculum requirement for children to be able to:
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25metres ∙ Use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke) ∙ Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Due to the current circumstances, we feel it most appropriate to identify and target teaching to the children who cannot currently meet these requirements. To help us with this process, please complete the attached form indicating whether your child is able to meet the requirements above or not. We will then do our very best to facilitate the required lessons. If you have already paid for the swimming lessons and your child does not require them, the office will process a refund.
We understand that some parents may feel concerned about their child attending swimming lessons in light of the Coronavirus pandemic. Please be reassured that we have carefully risk assessed swimming provision in light of the Covid-19 guidance and systems of control as well as guidance and advice from Swim England. Please feel welcome to contact me if you would like to discuss your concerns.
Please complete the attached form and email the return to (admin@ranvilles-jun.hants.sch.uk) by Monday 19 October.
Thank you very much for your support.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Johnson
Deputy Headteacher
