Relationships and Sex Education Policy Consultation

Dear Parents / Guardians,

The Department for Education has published statutory guidance for the teaching of  Relationships, Sex and Health Education in schools that must be in place by summer 2021 at  the latest. It is a Government expectation that we consult with parents regarding our policy  for Relationships and Sex Education.

Relationships Education is taught in every year group in the school at an age appropriate level  through our PSHE lessons. Sex Education is taught in years 5 and 6. Parents are invited to a  presentation in year 5 where we share the specific content and some teaching aids that we  use within our lessons. We do not plan to change this in light of the new guidance as it already  fulfils the expectations.

Attached with this letter is a copy of our updated policy for Relationships and Sex Education.  Sections of the policy have been highlighted to show the changes that have been made since  last publication. These are typically for clarity as opposed to a change in content or approach.  We have made minimal changes to our curriculum as the vast majority of the content of the  Governments guidance was already covered within our planned learning.

Please take some time to read the updated policy. It is vital that we work together to get this  right for our children. If you have any questions or wish to discuss or comment on any aspect  of the policy, please contact me by email using the address  or book a telephone appointment by 31 October 2020. Following this date, we will amend the  policy as necessary and publish the final adopted policy on our website.

Thank you very much for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Johnson
Deputy Headteacher
