Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium Funding?

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to schools in England to support students who may face challenges that could impact their academic progress. The aim is to close the attainment gap between these pupils and their peers, ensuring that every child has equal opportunities to succeed.

Who is Eligible for Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools for students who:

  • Are eligible for free school meals (FSM)
  • Are children in care or have previously been in care and are now adopted or under a special guardianship/residence order.
  • Have parents in the armed forces or have had parents in the armed forces at any point in the last six years.

How is the Funding Used?

Schools decide how to use the Pupil Premium to best support eligible pupils. This might include:

  • Academic support: Hiring additional staff, running tutoring sessions, or purchasing educational resources to help pupils achieve their potential.
  • Social and emotional support: Providing mental health or pastoral care services.
  • Extra-curricular activities: Offering opportunities such as music lessons, sports, or school trips to broaden students’ experiences and build their confidence.

Schools must ensure that the funding directly benefits eligible pupils, though other students may also benefit from activities or programs funded by Pupil Premium.

How Can Parents Help?

  • Check your eligibility: If you think your child might qualify for free school meals, apply even if they currently receive universal infant free school meals. Schools receive additional funding for every eligible pupil registered.
  • Engage with school: Stay informed about how we use Pupil Premium funding and how it supports your child’s learning and development.

Accountability and Reporting

Schools are required to publish an annual Pupil Premium strategy on their website, outlining:

  • How the funding is being used.
  • The impact it has on improving outcomes for eligible pupils.

This ensures transparency and helps parents understand how the funding supports their child.

If you have questions or concerns about Pupil Premium funding and its use school, do not hesitate to contact the school office or leadership team.
